The station
A radio built by the people who listen to it.
The studio sits in EmaXesibeni, on the N2 in the Eastern Cape. The station takes its name from Alfred Baphethuxolo Nzo, and it was established in 2007 after the community sat down and asked for a broadcaster of its own.
Eyethu Yarona says the same thing twice: it is ours. The station broadcasts in isiXhosa, Sesotho, English, and isiZulu, and it keeps room for indigenous languages. The work is simple and daily — reliable information, local music, and a place for the district to hear itself.
